Abstract

Our article builds upon a theoretical-clinical concept aimed at creating psychotherapeutical tools to prevent suicidal behaviour in psychotraumatised adolescents. Within this framework we undertook to examine whether there are any elements specific to adolescence in overcoming trauma, in particular sexual abuse within the family. One of our hypotheses is that during adolescence the trauma first needs to be integrated within the family context before the subject can start to process it at the psychological level. This would mean that a suicide attempt is to be regarded as a sign that the trauma-incorporation process has failed. We will develop the idea that the non-communicability of the individual trauma stems from the fact that its communication would constitute too considerable an attack on the myth for the family to be able to retain its balance. © Médecine & Hygiène.
