Abstract

Suicide is a public health problem of increasing relevance in Chile. It is a preventable cause of death associated frequently to psychiatric disorders. Mental health professionals are in position to identify persons at risk and implement effective preventive measures. This article reviews data pertinent to detection and assessment of suicidal risk and offers guidelines for management. © 2012 Clínica Las Condes
