Abstract

The suicidal behavior in adolescents is a problem of frequent health that has been increased in the last years. With the objective of characterizing this behavior one carries out a retrospective descriptive study of the adolescents that attempted suicide an those who committed suicide in Cerro municipality, within the understood period of January 2009 to December 2010. 38 adolescents were studied 37 of them attempted suicide and one committed suicide. A survey applied to the same ones such variables as: Age, sex, grade, used method, individual and family factors of risk, as well as triggers conflicts. Among the results we can highlight that the ages of 15 to19 years, the feminine sex and the high school education. The psychoactive drugs intake was the method most frequently used and the suicidal behaviour was evaluated as not very serious, not lethal risk intention and graveness of the circumstances drop. It existed family antecedents of psychiatric disorders in the 45.95 % of the cases and suicide attempt within the relatives in 40.20 %. Family dysfunctions and violence were detected factors. The 56,76 % of the adolescent had psychiatric disorders and the 29,72 % had previous suicidal attempts. Problems with the family constituted the most frequent triggers conflicts. The monitoring was adequate in 72.95 % of the patients. The discovered allowed designing a strategy for the prevention of the suicidal behavior.
