Abstract

Rationale: suicide is a subject of investigation for the medical sciences but also social sciences. Durkheim examines suicide and describes the state of anomie, without rules, in which citizenship as a result of rapid change, loses its connection with society and his belief in social rules and institutions, leading to individual despair and suicide.

OBJECTIVE: identify the social integration difficulties in depressive people with suicidal thoughts.

METHODology: we performed a qualitative study is part of a broader research on depression. Before the interview administered a questionnaire with demographic data, data on depression and causes identified, as well as test anxiety-depression Goldberg. Subsequently we carried out an in depth interview that we call life story. Were interviewed 66 people diagnosed with depression, 52 women and 14 men consent. Of these are discussed that have ideas or suicide attempts.

RESULTS: in many-as respondents who have thought about or attempted suicide that has prevented them from doing so is the family and children.

CONCLUSIONS: the social support is identified as the main factor that has prevented the suicide. © 2011 Fundación Index.
