Abstract

The suicidal attempts have increase significantly in the last decades in teenagers younger than 20 years old. A control - case was study was carried out in the province of Santiago de Cuba (July - December, 2007) on teenagers that attempted to commit suicide; with the objective to identify the factors associated to such behavior. Information was gathered from a questionaire done for this study. Descriptive measures were estimated for the quantitive variable in order to identify association. Mantal and Haenszal Test was used and estimate of odd ratio with reliance intervale and meaning for a = 0,05. The variables that showed relationship with the suicidal attempt were: previous plans for self injury, presence of hopelessness, physical uncomfortable feelings, disputes, distrust, violence, recently fights with dear people, family and personal backgrounds of suicidal attempts of psychiatric synmptomatologies among others.
