Abstract

This article presents, through a review of the scientific and clinical literature, the state of the situation regarding child suicide survivors and the help to provide this specific group. It also presents a detailed description of two innovative experiences in the field: the Programme de thérapie de groupe pour enfants endeuillés par suicide (group therapy program for child suicide survivors) in Laval (Canada) and the program offered by the Vivre son deuil federation of suicide survivor support associations in French-speaking Europe. The specificity of suicide grief is established, especially that experienced by children. A wide variety of group approaches has been tried and evaluated to address the need to intervene with these children. The literature recognizes that these approaches can be effective to a certain extent. © 2010 Elsevier Masson SAS.
