Abstract

Formaldehyde is formed when methyl alcohol vapor is passed overa red hot spiral of platinum wire. It is a colorless gas, possessing astrong pungent, irritating odour. It is soluble in water a 40 percentsolution being a pharmacopoeial preparation. In the present case afemale prisoner aged about 28 years W/o Srinivasulu admitted inPsychiatric ward on 29/01/2010 at 1:50 AM by the orders of theNandalur Court in Cr.No:3/2010 of Penagalur P.S U/s 29 Mental & Healthact. A case was registered on the complaint given by her parentsagainst the deceased as there was conflict in the family. She committedsuicide by consuming formalin solution in the hospital.
