Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of gaining an integrated and comprehensive psychosocial understanding of the behaviours of young adults, who were brought to the emergency service unit of a hospital after they had attempted suicide. Semistructured interviews were used to gather data from 21 individuals. Most studies conducted earlier have attributed suicide attempts to problems encountered in relationships with the opposite sex. However, the findings of this study indicate that suicide attempts are largely a result of the individual's inability to face or cope with difficult situations and the ability to solve his/her problems.
