Abstract

Present study was carried from 1st January 2006 to 31st December 2006 at Dept. of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Govt. Medical College and New Civil Hospital Surat. Surat is an industrial city with Diamond and Textile industries. So, due to this people from all over the country come here for work depending upon their capability and skill. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the suicide rate in industrialized countries has increased since the beginning of the twentieth century and parallels the gradual increase in urbanization and education. During present study period 1731 total postmortems have been conducted, out of them 176 cases were caused due to suicide.
