Abstract

Suicide attempts and self-injurious behaviors are very frequent in borderline patients, and it's difficult for the clinician to plan long-term treatment with these patients, because of the suicidal risk. Most psychotherapies (except dialectical behavior therapy from M. Linehan) and psychotropic medication do not directly focus on frequency of suicide attempts. The goal of our study is to prove that a 24/24 phone permanency ("crisis hotline") with a professional (psychologist or psychiatrist, with clinical experience of borderline patients, and trained for this study) will decrease suicide attempts in borderline patients. It is a French multisite, controlled, simple-blind study with 600 borderline patients. This study was granted by a national Projet Hospitalier de Recherche Clinique (PHRC). © 2010 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
