Abstract

Germany has prepared to start several air defense upgrades emphasizing the importance of upgrades in the nation's military modernization strategy. German companies rely on directed-energy approaches such as MBDA has been investigating lasers to disable rocket-propelled grenades used as bombs. Diehl has been working on extending the range of its high-power microwave technology to disable threats including suicide car bombs. SysFla combines counter-mortar, artillery and rocket protection functions with the ability to destroy unmanned aircraft, helicopters and fighters at close ranges. SysFla has been initiated with an objective to replace the Roland air defense system, which has already been phased out in Germany, and the Gepard, which is being retired. LFK NG would feature a common modular infrared seeker derived from the IRIS-T dogfight missile, a two-pulse motor and a warhead that can adapt its blast profile to the target.
