Abstract

In many reports, childhood trauma (physic, psychological and sexual abuse), has been associated with adulthood's mental diseases like anxiety disorders, depression, personality disorders, alcohol and other drugs abuse, stress posttraumatic disorder (SPTD) and eating disorders. Increassing interest in environmental factors in the development of bipolar dosorder and schizophrenia have been notes in recent reports. Otherwise untill 2004 there are no accurate studies in which the relationship between psychological trauma and severe mental illness (SMI) is analyzed. Previous studies just detected that SMI and SPTD comorbidity had a worse clinical outcome , a higher frequency of achohol and drug abuse, more hospital admisions, more suicide temptations and a poorer laboral reinsertion. Very few studies about SMI and SPTD comorbitity treatment have been reported and a prospect in the clinical review about a traumatic events is propossed. Copyright © 2009 Aran Ediciones, s. l.
