Abstract

Authors studied a sample of 281 outpatients with panic disorder on average a 5-year retrospective period, according to the suicide behaviors. They compared some clinical data of the first admission (2002-2006) and of the study's time (2008). In the time of first admission 5 persons (1.7%) reported previous suicide attempt and 53 patients (18.2%) suicidal ideations. Both data harmonized with the frequency measured in the Hungarian community. During the follow-up period there was no committed suicide, 2 persons attempted suicide (0.7%), 4 persons (1.4%) reported suicide ideations. Five (1.8%) patients developed major depression, one of them has bipolar disorder. The study shows that the uncomplicated panic disorders have no suicide risk. Authors do emphasize the consistent use of cognitive behavior therapy. © 2009 Akadémí ai Kiadó, Budapest.
