Abstract

Several assessment instruments of nonsuicidal self-injury exist, solely used for research purposes. This study reviews the psychometric properties and clinical relevance of seven instruments. Interviews and questionnaires considered have different degrees of suitability for clinical practice. Two instruments did not adequately distinguish between nonsuicidal self-injury and suicide attempts. It is discussed in which diagnostic phase, the instruments were most suitable. © 2009 by Verlag Hans Huber, Hogrefe AG.
