Abstract

The authors surveyed 56 physicians and 28 nurses of Cauto Cristo, Granma, Cuba to determine their attitudes toward assisted suicide by means of an anonymous questionnaire. The individuals were divided into four groups. Pearson chi square statistics were used to compare the answers. The 72,9 % of the respondents did not considered the suicide as a personal right, and 61,2 % considered (or thought) that it is not a right for other person. No one of the surveyed would help to other people to commit suicide, and the majority would try to prevent anyone from it. The 84,7 % were in disagreement with the establishment of institutions for suicide. The 88,3 % think suicide must be prevented in Cuba.
