Abstract

In Sansal's novel the half-algerian children of an ex-nazi learn of their father's war-time role; one, well integrated in French society, ends up committing suicide, the other, more marginalised, chooses to set apart from extremism and in particular islamism. The issues raised are those of how to live together in the post-Auschwitz world.
