Abstract

Drowning is one of the common causes of death. Nature of drowning has been categorized as suicidal, accidental and homicidal. A record of drowning of any particular place can reveal the information about the exact number and types of drowning. Simultaneously, the most common age group and gender of drowned victims can also be traced. The present work has been carried out in order to make comparison of various drowning cases happened in various district of Punjab in year 2005 and 2006. Information regarding the drowning causalities was collected from the police records and this data was used in the elucidation of the percentage database charts revealing age groups of drowning persons, nature of drowning, types of drowning site, gender type of drowned persons and percentage of drowning cases in a particular area. This study is supposed to be of immense help in understanding the patterns of drowning in Punjab. Forensic investigators and other Law enforcement agencies can take benefit of this study.
