Abstract

The Algerian police academy faced a suicide bombing attack on 19 August, 2008 at capital Algiers, which killed 43 people. Algeria recently faced a series of bomb attack which killed dozens of soldiers and police officers. A fire-fight on 17 August in Skikda region claimed to kill 11 troops and an officer. Algeria also reported the killing of the commander of the Jijel operational sector on 14 August. Colonel Abdelkader Yamani was killed by a remote-controlled bomb explosion during a routine petrol of the mountain area 360 km east of Algiers. Many aspirant to police academy at Issers were gathered outside the academy when suicide bomber crashed his car into the crowd killing many people. The suicide explosion also damaged nearby houses and buildings.
