Abstract

Increasing evidences suggest that mania frequently co-exists with cluster B personality disorders, particularly with borderline and narcissistic personality disorders. The comorbidity between bipolar disorder and narcissistic personality disorder often complicates the diagnosis of mania and may represent a negative prognostic factor, leading to poor treatment adherence and increased suicide attempts. In order to help clinicians investigating patients' personality characteristics, many assessment instruments have been developed. We report the clinical case of one patient with mania and narcissistic personality traits assessed with the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure (SWAP-200).
