Abstract

Pakistan's civilian airports were put on red alert on September 25, 2008, after intelligence officials warned of an expected suicide attack at Islamabad International. The scare came after a truck bomb destroyed Islamabad's Marriott hotel, close to the official residences of the president and prime minister and the city's diplomatic headquarters. Western and Pakistani intelligence officials have clarified that such attacks and airport alert confirms suspicions that Al-Qaeda and the Taliban are determined to attack the important areas of the country. The Pakistani military has already increased its attacks on suspected militant hide-outs in the border region. The leaders from Pakistan and the US are however jointly committed of stepping up their struggle in the fight against terror.
