Abstract

The case of an aneurysm of the right coronary artery coincidentally discovered in a 45-year-old man who died of a typical suicide attempt is reported. The autopsy revealed a 2x1.5 cm outpouching inside the Valsalva sinus of the right coronary artery with a calcified atheroma bed. Examination of the root of right coronary artery showed narrowing of the artery at the junction with the aneurismal sac, otherwise the coronary artery was unremarkable. In the posterior wall of the right ventricle adjacent to the apex of the heart, a scar measuring 4×5 cm was present due to a myocardial infarction. The histological examination of the aneurysm wall showed fragmentation, loss of elastic fibers and atrophy and fibrous changes of the medial layer. © 2008 Springer Medizin Verlag.
