Abstract

We describe the case of a male patient, 55 years old, who voluntarily ingested with intention to commit suicide a mixture of two dermatological creams for the treatmet of scabies: Crotamiton 40 gr and Permethrin 60 gr. The patient was found many hours after ingestion and upon admission to the Emergency Unit was in a deep coma (GCS: 8), with: hyperreflexia, dehydration and hyperosmolarity, hypotension, respiratory failure and oliguria. After orotracheal intubation the patient underwent artificial ventilation, gastrolavage, activated charcoal administration, rehydration through hypotonic and normotonic solution and pharmacological sedation. In the first 24 hours we achieved normalisation of the vital parameters. At day three weaning from artificial ventilation was achieved and at day four the patient recovered consciousness.
