Abstract

The Control-Mastery Theory provides guidelines for therapeutic interventions on the basis of a psychodynamic plan formulation. This is demonstrated by the case description of a patient with depressive disorder who became suicidal during the 13 weeks of an inpatient treatment. The videotape of the intake interview was used for a plan formulation. The individual relevance of the suicidal menace in the life context of the patient was then worked out on the background of the plan formulation. The coherence of the therapeutic interventions was evaluated taking into account the patient's weekly self-evaluation in the context of the therapeutic alliance and the self-efficacy (Inpatient Questionnaire, SEB). Furthermore, expert ratings of the therapeutic interventions documented by therapy transcripts were considered. The case study demonstrates that the Control-Mastery Theory proves to be a useful concept for psychodynamic intervention. © 2007 Springer Medizin Verlag.
