Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe forms of depressive symptoms and differential diagnosis of depression as an integral part of schizophrenia. The presence of depression in schizophrenia is associated with poor prognosis of mental illness, worse social functioning, more suicidal attempts, and poor quality of life. An importance of early evaluation of patients with schizophrenia for the presence of depressive symptoms is highlighted.
