Abstract

We report four cases of neck injury due to suicide attempt from 2004 to 2006. The patients were 3 males and 1 female, with ages ranging from 24 to 86 years. One patient had neck injury alone, while the other 3 patients had additional injuries including the wrist, abdomen and chest. They used cutter, paring knife, kitchen knife or razor. The external jugular vein was injured in 2 patients, and the hyoid bone was exposed in 2. One patient cut into the pharynx. Two patients had depressive disorder and one had dementia. They were all properly treated and presently have no functional disorder in the neck.
