Abstract

Studies regarding the criminological phenomena, aimed at conceiving pertinent and efficient prevention strategies, require a thorough understanding and documentation of the context, the triggering and favoring factors, their motivation and effects. In this respect we created an instrument that can be easily used by forensic pathologists while investigating live or deceased victims of various self- or heterodestructive acts - the forensic criminological chart. In the present paper we exemplify the application of the criminological chart on all the suicide cases investigated at the Timisoara Institute of Forensic Medicine in 2005, with accent on those items that can rarely be found in the case history of the autopsy reports, but are of fundamental importance in understanding the suicidal behavior and its trends: psychiatric history, suicidal ideation or history of previous attempts, educational, social and professional background, trigger events etc. © 2006 Romanian Society of Legal Medicine.
