Abstract

In summary, school nursing begins with prevention and organization of a plan. It is vital to know the customer (the student) and tailor the care to the needs of the population. The population is not only the students in the school, but the parents and families as well; hence good communication skills are a must. The health and education covers physical. chronic and acute, as well as mental health, which require continual updating, based on the needs of the community. Every year new disorders and treatments are discovered - staying abreast is the school nurse's responsibility. From child abuse to asthma to suicide to legal and environmental issues to bandages and beyond, the school nurse holds an awesome responsibility and plays a pivotal role in health maintenance and prevention.
