Abstract

Psychiatric disorders are the leading cause of maternal morbidity and suicide is the leading cause of maternal death in the UK, and probably throughout the developed world. These disorders are very common both in pregnancy and following delivery. In this contribution we cover the aetiology and management of puerperal psychosis, postnatal depressive illness, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
