Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To deeply understand and master the concepts of suicide, characteristics and reasons of suicide and interference strategy based on considerable researches on suicide behavior of teenagers. Data sources: A computer-based online search of China Journal Full-Text Database was undertaken for articles about suicide behavior of teenagers published in Chinese from January 1979 to January 2005 with the key word of "suicide"; PsycArticles Journal Full-Text Database was searched for relevant articles published from January 1979 to January 2005 with the key word of "suicide". Meanwhile, relevant literatures in library from January 1979 to January 2005 were searched, and the Internet was scanned with the key word of "result of suicide investigation". Study selection: The literatures were checked up firstly to select those about suicide theory, suicide behavior and suicide of teenagers. Those with few samples, published on lower authority journals were excluded. Repetitive studies were also excluded. Data extraction: Totally 156 literatures about suicide or teenagers suicide were collected, including 11 reviews, 17 ones about suicide theory, 63 ones about suicide behavior, 54 about teenagers suicide and 11 ones about investigation into suicide. Finally, 18 were selected for reviewing. Data synthesis: Suicide had certain thought to the consequence of suicide. The rate of uncompleted suicide was higher than those of completed suicide. Suicide became the fifth cause of death and the rate of suicide was different between sexes. Suicide had relationship with growth, the reasons for suicide included physiology, psychology, family, society and so on. The suicide behavior could be forecasted and interfered to a certain extent.

CONCLUSION: Suicide is one of the main causes of death during adolescent, which under the influence of physiology, psychology, family, society and so on. However, suicide behaviors of teenagers can be forecasted and interfered to a certain extent.
