Abstract

Identification of suicide risk factors in adolescents is an important phase of establishing local prophylactic programmes. The aim of the work is a concise presentation and comparison of the results of studies on suicidal behaviour risk factors in adolescents from the Łódź region. The studies were performed on various adolescent populations: pupils, suicide poisoning convalescents, and mental patients. The rate of suicidal attempts among pupils was found to conform to the median level on the European scale. Separate risk factors were demonstrated to occur for suicide attempts and for suicidal thinking in young people. It was found that depressive disorders and the sense of meaninglessness of life significantly increase the risk of suicide in all populations of adolescents. © 2006 by Wydawnictwo Medyczne Urban & Partner.
