Abstract

The lesions produced by caustic substances are usually mild because the amount ingested is small. However, in a suicide attempt, serious damage to the esophagus is more common. We report the case of a 14-year-old patient with a previous diagnosis of depression, who was brought to the emergency service after drinking a caustic alkali.
