Abstract

Homicide-suicide is a rare but dramatic event, which can be defined as any homicide or homicide attempt, followed, in a very short period of time, by the suicide or the suicide attempt of the perpetrator of the facts. Classical authors used to link exclusively such episodes with melancholia and with misplaced altruism, nowadays it seems obvious that homicide-suicides may occur within various nosographic situations, and that an aggressiveness, sometimes hidden by rational pseudo-altruistic motivations is often detected. After having reminded the different types of homicide-suicides, the author tries and apprehends the complexity of such episodes. She underlines elements which permit to progress in the understanding of homicide followed by suicide.
