Abstract

Dysmorphophobia (body dysmorhic disorder) belongs to obsessive-compulsive spectrums disorders having its essence in a tormentous preoccupation with a presumed defect in one's of appearance. These patients use camouflageing of their handicap or search for dermatological and aestetic surgical help. They represent more than 10% of the clientele of these specialists. Dermatological or surgical measures dont bring relief to these patients but highten their despair with possible ending in suicide or agression against the physician. It is important to identify the disorder and to enable the patient to receive effective psychiatric care.
