Abstract

Retrospective study of custodial deaths was carried out from year 2000 to 2004. A total of 70 cases examined comprising of all males. Twelve of the inmates died due to violent causes and fifty-eight due to natural causes. Maximum number of death occurred in the age group 31 to 40 years. Suicide was the common manner of the death and tuberculosis was the most common cause among the natural death. Overall, 12.85% of the deaths involved inmates who were less than 30 years old. Of all the deaths, 64.28% received medical attention.
