Abstract

In order to commit suicide an 18-years old student cut his throat with a power saw. When the emergency doctor arrived, he intubated via the open trachea and organized the transport to hospital by helicopter. Once circulation collapse was handled, surgery was performed, followed by a 2-months psychiatric follow-up-treatment. The patient was discharged from hospital without any permanent defects. Emergency handling in this severe throat trauma is discussed. © Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart New York.
