Abstract

We analized the cases of death by self-inflicted burns. The deaths were represented by three cases of males between 21 and 52 years (with an average of 32 years), who self-inflicted outdoors by sprinkling with flammable liquids followed by ignition. The reasons were breaking up with the loved one, revendicative atitude, professional failure with the risk of loosing the job. All the cases were hospitalized at the ATI clinic; the bums were of II, III and IV grades on 60 to 98%(with and average of 76%) of the body. The cause of death was combustion and postcombustion shock.
