Abstract

The integration of interdisciplinary teams to assist in the treatment of individuals with mental retardation and mental illness is receiving increased attention. However, few examples of the impact of integrated teams are presented in the literature. The treatment of borderline personality disorder among individuals with mental retardation is a complex process involving an understanding of the disorder and ongoing co-ordination between service providers. A case study is presented to illustrate the effects of combined behavioral, psychological and pharmacological treatment of a woman with mild mental retardation and borderline personality disorder. This study will illustrate the impact of integrated treatment methods using a naturally-occurring ABA design.
