Abstract

Recognizing and assessing suicidal crisis has to enable a better estimation of the intervention to be set up. This identification is based on warning signs, psychic crisis manifestations and vulnerability features. Assessing suicidal potential is triple. First the risk factors predisposing to the acting out are to be taken into account (depression, addictive disorders, psychotic disorders, personnality disorders, previous history of suicide attempts). Secondly emergency factors immediatly preceeding the suicidal act (presence of active suicidal ideas and suicidal scenario) and thirdly dangerousness factors (lethality and accessibility of the means) are important to be detected, without forgetting protective factors.© 2003 Éditions scientifiques et médicales Elsevier SAS.
