Abstract

Following a medico-legal case of suicide, we propose to analyse links between the gifted and violence. Gifted people aren't rare, however they live on the fringe of society and that can involve familial and existential crises. Medical literature shows that the gifted are more exposed to early violent death and they seldom perpetrate penal offences. Psychosocial deleterious childhood factors are important to shed light on their violence but have their limits. Prevention at the individual and family level is required, and the whole of society has to adapt so the gifted might find their place. We need to carry out more inquiries in this vulnerable population whose distress is often underevaluated.
