Abstract

The role of Mo5Si3 as a structural material to be used at temperature higher than the upper limit for Ni-based superalloys was investigated. It has a high melting point of 218o°C and shows creep resistance at high temperature. The solubility of various alloying elements in Mo5Si3 was investigated. Vicker hardness measurements and compression tests at 1300°C were performed to evaluate the influence of alloying on the mechanical properties of Mo compound. The results show that the compound exhibits solid solubility when alloyed with elements that have same crystal structure as Mo.
