Abstract

4.48 Psychosis is a play written shortly before the suicide of the author, Sarah Kane, a young British woman. Only one character is left here, confronted with the sufferings of psychosis, trying to write about life invaded by death. In contrast with Joyce, whose writing was analysed by Lacan as a way of escaping madness, the point here is to investigate written work which does not prevent suicide.
