Abstract

Authors discuss self-destructiveness leading to the loss of mental functioning abilities and/or to suicide as a result of a symbolization deficit. Reporting clinical cases, they support the necessity of a symbolization of the self and of the object in order to make possible the integration of a non-destructive self-aggressiveness as a sign of the exit from omnipotence. In this stage the central role of the object is discussed, consisting in not denying hate and at the same time not taking revenge.
