Abstract

PURPOSE: To analyze the forensic cases dealt with in Gazi University Hospital's Adult Emergency Service.

METHOD: The forensic cases of patients admitted to Gazi University Hospital's Adult Emergency Service between 1 May and 31 December 2003 were recorded and analyzed.

RESULTS: In total, 28,260 patients were admitted to Gazi University Hospital's Emergency Service, of which 4% were forensic cases. Among the forensic cases, 44.3% involved traffic accidents, 20.7% suicides and poisonings, and 16.5% assaults.

CONCLUSION: The forensic cases of admissions to Gazi University Hospital's Adult Emergency Service were analyzed, revealing that the rate of forensic cases was 4%, with 44.3% involving traffic accidents.
