Abstract

The authors discuss the problem of suicidal behaviour of children and adolescents. They analyzed case-records of 127 patients hospitalized after attempted suicide at the Paediatric Psychiatric Clinic of the Second Medical Faculty Charles University and Motol Faculty Hospital in 1995-1999. They found that the most frequently used method of suicidal action was intoxication with medicaments - in 110 instances. A very frequently used preparation is paracetamol. The authors compare also the medication before and after the suicidal attempt. They reflect on possible prevention of suicidal attempts by intoxication with medicaments.
