Abstract

Adolescent suicidal behaviour is a major public health problem. The use of effective treatment and prevention programmes delivered by primary health services is necessary to reduce the extent of this problem. GPs are key gatekeepers responsible for the initial assessment and treatment of adolescents, and for referral of those with more severe problems to specialist mental health services.
