Abstract

The epidemiology of suicide in the Osijek area has been investigated in the last 30 years. In this study, the rate of suicide was assessed according to cause, age and method of suicide for the 1970-1979 and 1990-1999 periods. The epidemiology of suicide in the war and postwar period were compared. Higher suicide rates were recorded for men and elderly. Concerning the method of suicide, hanging predominated, however, during war period the rate of suicide committed with firearms increased. A significant impact of war migrations on suicide rates was recorded.
