Abstract

Negative psychical consequences of abortion are described on the basis of the available literature survey. The significance of deep psychical conflict as the result of unwanted pregnancy crisis and abortion is emphasized. The factors that make the conflict even deeper and potentiate the abortion stress are presented. The most common postabortion psychical reactions including guilt, anger, being hurt, retreat, negation and annoyance are described. Serious psychic consequences of abortion such as PASD, depression, suicide, anorexia nervosa and behavioral disorder as well as repeated abortions and their consequences are discussed. Special attention is paid to significance of the relationship between partners and mother s attitude toward her children, along with psychodynamic description of PASS in children. Therapy and some therapeutic recommendations are also presented.
