Abstract

Children and adolescents suffering from depressive disorders present a serious clinical condition, chronic and recurrent, followed by other associated disorders. The diagnosis involves the participation of several informers and the symptons story observation according to the development level. Though the diagnosis criteria is the same as the adults', researchers found in children presenting Major Depressive Disorder, the predominance of anxiety symptons, somatic complaints and hallucination; and in the adolescents sleep and appetite changes, suicide ideation and attempts; in the patients presenting Dysthymic Disorder were found rejection feelings, anger, desobedient behavior, a significant social difficulty and major problems in the leisure activities. Early Depressive Disorder interferes in the family, social and academic relations, justifying the importance of the diagnosis in this age-group. © 2000 - Diagraphic Editora Ltda.
