Abstract

The case is reported of a young woman who committed suicide by shooting herself in the chest using a self-defence pistol, calibre 12/50, loaded with rubber bullets. The projectiles caused attrition of the wall of the left ventricle with no injury to the pericardial sac. To our knowledge, this is the first report in the forensic literature of death with this type of projectile. The potential danger of this type of ammunition, freely available in France, is discussed.
