Abstract

The treatment of any affective disorder in elderly people is the same as with any other age. Specifically, it is important to inform the patient about the seriousness of his, or her problems, and potential repercussions on other diseases, not to mention possible suicide. Thanks to new antidepressants such as ISRS and their tolerance, we can now treat the depressive phase at it's very beginning with effective doses. On the other hand, treatment delivered too late, or at too low of a dose can cause chronicity.
